JAS Motorsport open base in Malaysia for Asia customer programmes

JAS Motorsport have opened a second base of operations in Sepang, Malaysia, in order to support their programmes and customers in Asia, with the region a key market for their Honda Civic TCR.

JAS, which run the factory Honda programme in the World Touring Car Championship, will also continue to support the China Touring Car Championship’s Dongfeng Honda outfit.

The 150 square meter facility in Sepang will house a race-prep shop, a fabrication workshop, a parts inventory and a regional administrative officer to co-ordinate their Asian operations.

“It is far more practical, efficient and substantially lower cost to move cars from Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Thailand, China and the region to Malaysia and we have an open door to the circuit for testing,” said Mads Fischer, JAS Motorsport’s Business Development Manager.

“JAS is one of the first European race car manufacturer to open a facility to match the accelerating motorsport industry in Asia. This will help us immediately and also provide a base for further potential projects in the region in the future and to provide winter rebuilds and storage for our customers.”

The Milan-based team provided cars for the inaugural TCR Asia Series last season, including Prince Racing and the PAS Macau Racing Team.

“Our new Sepang workshop base underlines our dedicated customer services philosophy which says if you have a Honda race car we are right beside you to race and win with spares, skilled mechanics and race preparation facilities,” said Maurizio Ambrogetti, president of JAS Motorsport.
