DJR Team Penske duo fastest in Queensland pre-season test
The DJR Team Penske duo of Scott Pye and Fabian Coulthard topped a pre-season V8 Supercars test at Queensland Raceway today.
Pye was fastest in his #17 Ford Falcon, lapping the circuit in 1:09.0778, beating his team mate by a mere 0.0108 seconds.
“I guess I’ve got my wish list so far – last year I’d have loved to have had a teammate, and expand the team like we have with the new employees and stuff,” said Pye to v8supercars.com.au.
“Today was the first time we got to work together in this sort of environment. Everyone worked really well together and we improved throughout the day and hopefully we can keep improving.”
Craig Lowndes showed promising form in recovering from his broken collarbone by setting the third fastest time, just below four tenths of a second from Pye.
”It’s a test day for us and I’m always looking forward to being in the car but at the same time it was a bit of a test for me, to see how the body feels. To be honest, I’ve been in the car since nine o’clock this morning, got out once and I feel fine, I feel really good,” said Lowndes.
New Triple Eight Race Engineering driver Shane van Gisbergen was fourth fastest, with Will Davison claiming the fifth fastest time for Tekno Autosports.
Dunlop Series driver Todd Hazelwood managed to beat multiple V8 Supercars champion Jamie Whincup, with the duo in sixth and seventh position respectively, over 1.6 seconds from the top.
A rain shower meant the team lost about an hour at the end of the session.
Next up is another pre-season test day on Monday at Winton Motor Raceway.
