New name for WTCC independents’ category
The WTCC independents’ category, formerly named Yokohama Trophy, has changed name to the WTCC Trophy for 2016.
The prize money has been increased for the 2016 season, as we have reported on previously, making for a total of 500,000 euros.
”Privateer drivers and teams play a vital role in the success of the WTCC and it’s important we do all we can to help and encourage their participation in the championship,” said François Ribeiro, Head of Eurosport Events, the WTCC promoter.
The name change comes as Yokohama has opted to not be a part of the category, but they will continue to support the FIA European Touring Car Cup in 2016.
