New gearbox and cooling package for 2016 SEAT León TCR-spec Cup Racer
SEAT Sport are offering an upgrade package for the SEAT León Cup Racer which will bring it in-line from a technical standpoint with the Honda Civic TCR, arguably its closest rival in the inaugural TCR International Series season, including an upgrade from the DSG (Direct-shift gearbox) to a sequential unit by Sadev.
The DSG has often been a criticised part of the SEAT León Cup Racer in comparison to its competitors. With the sequential gearbox delivering a performance advantage for Honda this season, the JAS Motorsport-built car was forced to carry an additional 35kg of ballast as part of the Series’ Balance of Performance measures throughout 2015.
SEAT Sport are now offering an optional variant of the León, with both the DSG and sequential-shift variants available for next year’s TCR series, with the DSG version still used in the Eurocup series.
The 2016 spec SEAT León with the DSG will have a new cooling and aero package, exhaust and shock absorbers, as well as a relocated FT3 100 litre fuel tank which will bring it in-line with FIA’s recommended safety standards for 2017. The SEAT León Cup Racer DSG will be sold at 85k EUR.
The SEAT León Cup Racer SEQ will have new front brake calipers and a Sadev sequential-shift gearbox, which will bring the cost up to 110k EUR for 2016, marginally above the sale cost of the new Step 2 Honda Civic TCR being by JAS Motorsport.
