Jamie Whincup: ”There is plenty to celebrate”
Jamie Whincup had one of his best race weekends of 2015 in the V8 Supercars season finale, winning twice and finishing second in the final race, securing the teams’ title for Triple Eight Race Engineering.
”All in all there’s plenty to celebrate with us winning the Teams Championship. To finish fifth overall in the Drivers Championship is also a good climb back from where I was after the endurance season. Today was really about trying to achieve the Teams Championship for Red Bull Racing Australia and we were able to do that,” said the outgoing champion.
Team-mate Craig Lowndes had a mathematical shot at the title ahead of the weekend, but was far from the front runners, finishing 15th, seventh and sixth in the three races.
”In the second race we tried to jump in front of Frosty, but he had a good car and congratulations to him and the team for winning the drivers’ championship. To finish sixth (in the final race) from where we started was a pretty good effort and it was a great team effort to win the Teams Championship. The guys have worked really hard all year and it’s a credit to them,” said Lowndes.
Triple Eight Race Engineering beat Prodrive Racing Australia with 136 points after being behind them coming into the race weekend in Sydney, securing their sixth straight teams’ title.
