Yvan Muller happy with third after Q1 scare
Yvan Muller finished third in today’s qualifying session at Buriram, Thailand. The Frenchman, who is still in with a slim mathematical chance of winning the title, risked not going through to Q2 in the first segment of the session.
“Three minutes before the end of Q1 I was out, so it was really exciting. We made a few changes on the car and I was able to finally find a good lap. I am pleased with my result because until the very end of the first segment I expected to be out of the top twelve, it was tricky but I managed to achieve a good result.”
Talking about the race, Muller agrees with team-mate José María López the start will be crucial: “Everything will depend on the first two corners I suppose because we all have the same cars and with those kind of cars when you are behind you lose the downforce and there is not much chance to do anything. We are all team-mates, we can compete of course but we can’t do any stupid thing, which is normal. Everything will be done after the first two or three laps.”
Should López score three points more than the Frenchman, the Argentinian would clinch the title with three races to go.
