Jamie Green: “Mistakes at key moments cost us the championship”

Audi Sport Team Rosberg driver Jamie Green started the 2015 Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters season in full force, winning and dominating after the first two rounds of the season. However, things started to go downwards for the Briton, who yesterday scored his first podium since May.

Green won the season opener at Hockenheim, and then both races at Lausitzring. Together with the speed shown by the Audi RS 5 DTM, it looked like the Briton would be unbeatable. Norisring was the start of a very dry spell for the Team Rosberg driver, who saw his chances of being champion over two weeks ago at the Nürburgring.

The Briton thinks he’s in a better shape than ever before: “I think I have found myself this season” Green said to TouringCarTimes. “I’m better, and it’s also my third year with Audi. We are working better together, and that shows. I’m definitely more determined, and understand the car and the team better.”

Green lost the rhythm of the championship at Norisring, and his season was far from what had been seen at the opening races: “We were strong at the beginning, but we made mistakes at important times in the season that cost us good results. When we were in good shape, going fast, we had incidents and mechanical problems that prevented us from scoring important points, and we paid for that. Many times, it wasn’t even an important part of the car, it just a cheap, standard, piece that broke and forced us to retire. But then we had times when the car went perfect, but we were down at the back of the pack, so it was no use to us. The Performance Weights have also hurt us this year, so I think the formula is going to be reviewed to make it better for all of us.”

The Briton was second in Saturday’s Race 1, his first podium appearance since Lausitzring. Looking ahead, Green is hopeful: “We had good pace today and we were able to push. It was nice to be on the podium again and to be able to achieve a good result for us and for the team, We hope that next year we will continue to be competitive.”
