Paul Di Resta tops second Free Practice at Hockenheim

Mercedes AMG’s Paul Di Resta was the fastest dirver in this morning’s Second Free Practice session at Hockenheim, host of the ninth and final round of the 2015 Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters season.

Di Resta led from the early stages of the session in chilly conditions. Ambient temperatures of just 5 degrees Celsius made it difficult for the drivers to get the tyres to work. The Scot set a fastest lap of 1:32.974, ahead of Timo Scheider, just 0.024 seconds behind, and who led an Audi contigent. The German from Team Phoenix was followed by Jamie Green, Edoardo Mortara, Nico Müller and Miguel Molina, with the Nürburgring winner being just 0.082 seconds off the pace.

Lucas Auer and Robert Wickens followed for Mercedes, with Audi’s Mattias Ekström and Mike Rockenfeller closing the top ten.

Augusto Farfus was the fastest man in 11th place, with the Bavarian cars struggling in the cold temperatures.

Standings leader and favourite to take the Drivers’ title Pascal Wehrlein was 12th, 0.234 seconds behind Di Resta.

The session came to an early end when BMW’s Tom Blomqvist went off track with less than a minute on the clock. The incident was used to test the slow zones.

Qualifying for Race 1 is scheduled for 11:10.
