Scott Pye released from hospital after Bathurst smash

DJR Team Penske’s Scott Pye has been released from hospital, and has been cleared of any broken bones with just bruising, following a high-speed crash on lap 137 of today’s Bathurst 1000 while running in 11th position.

Pye, along with co-driver Marcos Ambrose, had been running at the front of the field in the Bathurst 1000 before dropping back after the rain intervention just before the two-thirds mark of the race.

The 25-year-old then crashed out at Reid Park, bringing out the safety car for the fourth and final time on today’s 161 lap race, with the team confirming that is would appear a mechanical failure was the catalyst for the crash.

“The team’s performance this weekend, led by Scott, has been outstanding, so it is very disappointing to see him crash out in such a way, said DJR Team Penske managing director Ryan Story. “Our initial technical inspection suggests the car may have broken a steering arm on the run down into Reid Park pitching Scott into the wall.”

Pye was sent to Orange Base Hospital after his crash, where it was feared he may have suffered broken ribs in the crash, but it’s now been confirmed by the team he’s just suffered bruising and was released this evening.
