HWA AG fined for pit stop light infringement

HWA AG has been fined by the Stewards at the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters round in Oschersleben, after Pascal Wehrlein’s pit stop light wasn’t duly activated after his tyre change.

Article 39.12 of the Sporting Regulations states that, when a car changes its tyres, an orange light on each side must be switched on by a team member. This light can be also activated by the driver from the cockpit. The light must be on, at the latest, before the second crossing through the start/finish line after the pit stop.

The light on the number 94 C63 DTM wasn’t on as required, with the engineers on the pit wall giving Wehrlein instructions through the radio on lap 25, 12 after his pit stop, in order to find the switch. The distraction caused Wehrlein to lose ground to his predecesor, with the 20-year old complaining to his engineers: “I’m busy racing here, just tell me where it is!”

The matter was referred to the Stewards, who fined the team, HWA AG, 1,000€ for the infringement.
