Kai Jordan wins in the wet at the Nürburgring
Kai Jordan took his first win of the year in the Division 1 class for the tenth round of the 2015 ADAC Procar Series in the wet conditions at the Nürburgring, finishing ahead of the Ford Fiesta ST of Johannes Leidinger, with Steve Kirsch third on the road and winning the Division 3 class.
Due to the weather conditions, the race was started behind the safety car, with the drivers then released to do battle after two laps. Besaplast Racing’s Fredrik Lestrup in the MINI and Vukovic Renault driver Milenko Vukovic fought for the lead, but a mistake for Vukovic saw him crash out on lap five, with the safety car again deployed as the barriers needed repair.
Lestrup began to pull away at the restart and looked set for a another victory, but then suddenly lost power and dropped down the order, handing the lead to Team Dombek MINI driver Kai Jordan. Lestrup would cross the line fifth, but would still finish third in the Division 1 class and picked up key points for the championship.
“I suddenly had no more power,” said Lestrup. “I’m glad that I have still managed a third place finish. Since (Heiko) Hammel and Vukovic brought no points, it still worked out well for me.”
Wolf Racing driver Heiko Hammel, who is still second in the standings, didn’t take part in the race due to an electronics issue with his Ford Fiesta ST. With Lestrup picking up another six points with third, the Swede now leads by 34 points with 60 available from the remaining six races.
In Division 2, the victory in the normally aspirated 1.6 litre (Super 1600) class went to Ralf Glatzel, his fifth win of the season in the Ford Fiesta 1.6 16v. Glatzel he extends his lead over ETH Tuning Citroën Saxo driver Andreas Rinke to 13 points, with Rinke finishing a lap down and fifth in class.
In Division 3, Steve Kirsch took his tenth win from tenth races and continues to dominate in the MINI Challenge class. Kirsch finishing on the overall podium in third position, just three seconds behind the Division 1 Ford Fiesta ST of Johannes Leidinger.
The next round of the ADAC Procar Series takes place at the Sachsenring August 30th.
