Stefano Comini confirms he will be back for Russia
Target Competition’s Stefano Comini will be back racing at the next round of the TCR International Series at Sochi in Russia at the end of June, but the Swiss driver admits it’s a race-by-race struggle to secure the budget to compete this season.
Comini had previously indicated to TouringCarTimes that Salzburg was set to be his last race. The 25-year-old had led the standings up until last week’s round at Monza in Italy, and remains points leader Gianni Morbidelli’s closest rival in the standings after this weekend’s race, just 18 points behind and with two victories to his name.
“I can confirm that I will be in Sochi, after that, every time it’s a lottery,” said Comini to TouringCarTimes.
“Each race it will be every time harder to find sponsors. It’s a lot of friends and sponsors that help me and believe in me, but the budget to race for normal people and a normal guy like me is quite high,” he explained.
Comini is working on a number of initiatives in the coming weeks in order to raise the budget to compete at the last four races in Argentina, Singapore, Thailand and Macau.
