Igor Skuz to finish the season with WestCoast Racing
Ukrainian driver Igor Skuz, who will start from pole position for today’s second race at the Salzburgring, will complete the season, barring Sochi, with the WestCoast Racing team after a successful switch from Campos Racing at the start of the year.
After celebrating his 39th birthday at the track yesterday, Skuz secured tenth which translates into pole position for the second race due to the reversed top ten grid.
Skuz started the year at Campos Racing in Malaysia with the Opel Astra, but with the car suffering from overheating issues, he switched to a SEAT León Racer for Shanghai, before taking the empty seat at WestCoast Racing following the departure of René Münnich, who left to launch his FIA World Rallycross Championship programme.
“I have the impression that my season is really starting now,” said Skuz. “I now feel perfectly comfortable with the Civic car, which is very nice to drive, and enjoy very much working with a highly-professional team as WestCoast Racing. So far, we have always had some small issue during race but that was part of the adjustment process. I feel we are now ready for first win, which is my clear objective.”
Skuz previously drove for Campos Racing in the FIA European Touring Car Cup from 2012-2014, the first two years with the Super 2000-specification SEAT León TFSI, and the last with the ex-factory Chevrolet Cruze 1.6T.
Skuz will be forced to miss the next round of the TCR International Series due to the political situation between Russia and the Ukraine, but will return for the next round at the end of July at Buenos Aires in Argentina.
