Richard Göransson stripped of pole position after grid penalty

Richard Göransson lost his pole position for the first STCC race at Anderstorp after receiving a five-place penalty for his incident with Emma Kimiläinen in the season opener in Skövde.

”Five places down unfortunately, but I’ll just have to make sure to be faster than everyone else tomorrow and I will be alright,” said Göransson.

The Team Tidö driver was superior in the qualifying at Anderstorp, beating championship leader Thed Björk by close to six tenths in the Q2 session. But Göransson will instead start sixth due to his grid penalty, but keeps the 25 points from the qualifying result as the penalty only affects his grid position.

It came close to Göransson having to start last as his Saab 9-3 had trouble making the ride height check after the qualifying sessions, but the stewards ultimately decided to clear his car.

The penalty means that Björk will start from pole in the first race ahead of team mate Fredrik Ekblom and BMW driver Fredrik Larsson in third.

Another driver with a five-place grid penalty is BMW driver Erik Johansson, for his incident with Prince Carl Philip Bernadotte in Skövde, moving him from tenth to last position on the grid.
