Career-best finish for Aiden Moffat at Donington Park
Aiden Moffat described his best ever BTCC finish as a “special moment,” after charging through to take fifth and a maiden Independent win in the final race at Donington Park.
The 18-year-old and his family-run Aiden Moffat Racing team moved across to a Mercedes A-Class for 2015, and are running as stable-mates with Ciceley Racing, who built the car.
Both A-Classes ran strongly inside the top four at the media day test last month, and Moffat was delighted to convert that pace into a result at the weekend.
“We were hoping we could try and do something like this in the last race this weekend, but after how badly the weekend went and having to start in 16th it seemed we’d be lucky to get a top 10. So to get to where we did and get the independent win is massive, it’s a special moment for us all,” said Moffat to TouringCarTimes.
“I was having a few close battles with Aron Smith, but as soon as I got a gap I knew I needed to get my head down and push on, and try and get on the back of the cars in front.
“Every time I drive the car I feel better and better, and keep getting more comfortable, so this is a great reward for us and the hard work that’s been put in behind the scenes. Hopefully it’s the first of a few to come.”
Moffat was also able to add a fastest lap and an extra point to his tally for the final race, after Honda Racing Team’s Gordon Shedden was penalised for setting his best time under yellow flags.
