Pepe Oriola looks set to miss the Macau weekend

Campos Racing’s Pepe Oriola is set to miss the remainder of the Macau weekend after a second crash in one day at the Guia circuit. The Spanish driver crashed out on his first flying lap in qualifying at Maternity, after having already crashed in FP2 in the morning.

The team were forced to borrow spare parts from Münnich Motorsport after the practice session to repair Oriola’s car, but with the damage sustained after qualifying, sources at the team have said that they do not expect to be able to run on Sunday, though the car as yet has not been officially withdrawn.

Oriola is at a loss to explain the accident, telling TouringCarTimes he was taking the session carefully following his practice crash only six hours earlier.

“I got some dirt I think on the tyre I think, I wasn’t pushing a lot, but I just suddenly got oversteer from nowhere and I couldn’t do anything”, he said.

“Today is a day of bad luck for me. At least I’m not fighting for a championship. The first crash was my mistake, but I wanted to be more careful after my crash, and I had kept two sets of tyres to go get to Q2. Some days everything goes against you, today is one of those days.”
