Mat Jackson pleased to end season on a high before the “long winter”
Mat Jackson rounded off his season with a strong drive to third at a wet Brands Hatch, following his high-flying Motorbase team-mate Jack Clarke on to the podium for the final race of the year.
Jackson was the most reliable competitor in the 2014 season, being the only drive to complete every racing lap of the year, helping him on his way to fourth in the standings, the only Ford driver to break in to the top ten.
“It’s a great result,” Jackson told TouringCarTimes. “A brilliant result for the Motorbase team. We’ve been working hard and came out, finishing every race which hasn’t been achieved very often and one of the first to achieve it. Great testament to the guys here in the team.”
The reverse grid for the final race saw Jackson’s team-mate Jack Clarke line up on pole position, driving a hard race against eventual winner Gordon Shedden before settling for second ahead of Jackson to put two of the Motorbase cars on the podium.
“It’s brilliant for Jack,” continued Jackson. “He’s done a brilliant job. Hats off to him, he drove a sterling race and thoroughly deserves to stand up there on the podium.”
In the run up to the Brands Hatch finale it was announced that Motorbase would be parting company with their title sponsor, Airwaves, opening up the rumour mill for potential new sponsors or possible driver moves.
“As for 2015 – at the minute there’s no plans in place,” Jackson concluded. “We’ll see what happens over the winter. It’ll be a long winter, it always is, and just hope we can get something sorted before we did last year.”
