Raft of penalties handed out at Brands Hatch
Four drivers and one team were given penalties by the race stewards following the day’s action at Brands Hatch.
Motorbase Performance’s Fabrizio Giovanardi was given an official reprimand and two penalty points for the incident with Gordon Shedden at the start of race one, which triggered a significant accident at Paddock Hill Bend (pictured).
Speedworks Motorsport’s Tom Ingram was given an official reprimand and two penalty points for the incident with Giovanardi in race two, which saw the Italian spin across the circuit in front of the pack.
As reported earlier, Jason Plato was given a 10-place grid penalty for the incident with Colin Turkington in the same race, which saw him sent to the back of the grid under the ‘three strikes’ rule. West Surrey Racing appealed the severity of the penalty, and Plato then had 20 seconds added to his race time, dropping him to 13th.
In the final race, Motorbase Performance’s Mat Jackson was given a verbal warning for an incident with Team BMR’s Aron Smith.
And in the teams’ championship, Welch Motorsport were docked a further 20 points for changing two more engines in the Proton Gen-2s of Dan Welch and Ollie Jackson.
