Colin Turkington to take Brands Hatch one race at a time

Colin Turkington was “delighted” to be fourth after a frantic wet-dry qualifying session at Brands Hatch saw multiple drivers swapping provisional pole position almost every lap.

“Delighted to be right at the sharp end, that’s one of the sessions where you could be first or you could be tenth,” Turkington told TouringCarTimes. “It was definitely wets at the beginning of the session, but you could tell it’d be slicks by the end so we made the decision to get out on slicks to get some heat in to them, which really worked for us. You can see the rain’s back on now and you had to be out at the right time.”

Turkington’s main title rival Jason Plato took pole position, alongside his Triple Eight team-mate Sam Tordoff, with Plato now needing to score six points more than Turkington in race one to keep the championship alive going in to the final two races of the season.

“We’ll see what the conditions are in the morning,” continued Turkington. “There’s three races in the day so I don’t need to win race one, obviously if there’s a chance I’d love to but you know we know we have a good car so we’ll just take it one race at a time.

“We don’t have to change the car too much for either conditions so we’ll keep working hard through the night and just see how it goes tomorrow.”
