Rob Collard taken to hospital for checks
Rob Collard has been airlifted to hospital for precautionary x-rays after his huge accident in the second race at Silverstone.
Collard’s BMW 125i rolled and came to rest on its roof after he made contact with the sliding Ford Focus of Jack Clarke going onto the Wellington Straight.
West Surrey Racing confirmed to TouringCarTimes that Collard was OK but very shaken. The car’s rollcage appeared intact despite very heavy panel damage.
Team boss Dick Bennetts said: “I spoke to Dr. Trafford and he said Rob’s OK, but as a precaution we’ve airlifted him to hospital to do a scan check. He’s just complained of pins and needles.
“All I can gather is that there were two other cars possibly involved, Jack Clarke and Gordon Shedden, what actually happened I’m not sure, but from what I can gather Rob’s just an innocent victim.”
Speaking about the incident, Clarke said: “I came together with Gordon [Shedden], squeezing each other on the exit of Becketts, and I got pushed sideways and into the path of poor Rob.”
