Mattias Ekström drops five places on the grid

Mattias Ekström, who had qualified in fourth position for tomorrow’s DTM race at Zandvoort, has received a five place grid penalty, after the stewards considered he had blocked another driver during qualifying.

Ekström had a strong show today, being constantly in the top positions, and had set a time of 1:30.869, just 0.156 seconds shy of pole position.

However, with the help of the on-board camera footage, the stewards ruled the Swede blocked Gary Paffett during Q1 whilst on an out lap, as the Briton was trying to set a time.

Thus, the Audi Team Abt Sportsline driver will start tomorrow’s race from ninth place on the grid, with Jamie Green, Nico Müller, Pascal Wehrlein, Martin Tomczyk and Joey Hand moving up one position each.
