Colin Turkington: “Winning the title tomorrow too much to ask”
Colin Turkington may clinch the title before the final round of the British Touring Car Championship for the first time since 1997. The series leader came third in both free practice sessions at Silverstone and is now looking forward to qualifying.
“We can improve the car a little more for qualifying,” said Turkington to TouringCarTimes. “Hopefully we can stay at the sharp end. The times are obviously very close, so I’d just like to stay near the front and my competitors, Jason [Plato] and Gordon [Shedden].”
Despite some good performances in free practice and the possibility to improve the car for qualifying, the leader still believes it will be hard to win the title as early as tomorrow: “I think we can be strong tomorrow, but I also believe it’s not realistic to win the championship tomorrow.
“It would be too much to ask to outperform Jason by such a margin on such a strong track for their car. I will keep the focus on my job and doing it at my best.”
Turkington leads the championship by 55 points over Plato and 64 over Shedden, and with 67 points up for grabs at Silverstone he needs to strengthen his lead by 12 over the MG driver and three over the Honda.
