Gordon Shedden says fourth was the best position possible

Honda’s Gordon Shedden qualified fourth for the eighth weekend of the 2014 British Touring Car Championship at Rockingham, crucially two spots behind title rival Colin Turkington, who’s 23 points ahead in the standings heading into this weekend, as says that was the best possible result for the Honda Civic Tourer.

The 2012 champion’s time was just over six-tenths of a second behind the Triple Eight MG of Sam Tordoff, and almost two-tenths slower than Colin Turkington’s second placed BMW, but believes there was nothing more to come from the car, and the difference was primarily down to power, with Shedden setting the 26th fastest speed trap at the start/finish straight in qualifying.

“That was a pretty decent time, there was not a lot left (in the car),” said Shedden to TouringCarTimes. “There was a bit of traffic, but to be fair I got my lap, and it was absolutely fully lit.

“We could go around all day and we’d never do (the time of Tordoff’s), I’m pretty happy with my lap time. We’ve just got to keep that pesky BMW (of Colin Turkington) in sight, but you’ve got to think Colin will lead into the first corner, look after his tyres and just bugger off,” he added.

“It’s just down to power. For us, our car’s going well around the corners, it just needs a bit more. There’s not much more I can ask from the car.”
