CTCC heads to South Korea this weekend
The fifth round of the 2014 China Touring Car Championship will be held this weekend at the Korean International Circuit, marking the first time for the championship to host a round outside China.
The Chang’an Ford FRD Team has established a healthy lead in both drivers’ and manufacturers’ championship after a dominating victory in the previous race. Martin Xie, who is leading the drivers’ championship, carries maximum ballast this weekend with team mates Rainey He, Darryl O’Young and Andy Yan close to him in the championship.
The Ford drivers are chased by the Shanghai VW 333 Racing Team drivers. Two of their drivers, Jiang Tengyi and Wang Rue who shares fifth place in the drivers’ championship, are keen to fight back to the championship lead this weekend after a tough previous race.
The Korean round also marks the return of another factory team: Kia Racing. The team has been absent for the first half of this season but will enter a pair of brand new Forte hatchback cars for drivers Lin Le Feng and Michael Soong.
G-Racing’s pair of Chevrolet Cruze 1.6Ts, driven by Kenneth Look and Jason Ziang Zhi Qiang respectively, will be the only privateer entries for this round.
The race weekend starts with qualifying at 15:00 local time on the 23rd of August.
