Gianni Morbidelli disappointed with Argentinian qualifying

Hungaroring race two winner Gianni Morbidelli is having a tough weekend at Termas de Río Hondo, Argentina. The Italian never managed to get into the top ten in any of the sessions so far over the weekend, and ended up in 15th in qualifying. Despite a good feeling with the track, the Münnich Motorsport driver was not able to find a decent level of grip, which relegated him to the seventh row.

“I can not blame the summer break for turning the tables on us, it’s been a disappointing weekend so far and especially a qualifying I’d rather put behind me,” said the Pesaro-based driver.

“I never managed to squeeze an acceptable level of grip from my car and I am even too aware that the dismal performance I put in today will hinder tomorrow outcome. I had pretty good expectations for this weekend, and it hurts that I am struggling just to stay in the same ballpark with the other Chevy drivers.”

On top of these set-up problems, Morbidelli’s engine lost some power, giving him even more cause to be disappointed. “To make things worse, it did not help that just when the second set of tyres was fitted, my engine lost a tad (amount) of power. Bad timing indeed, as today’s Q1 was the closest we had this year. Now I am looking forward to thumbing through all the data we have with my race engineer, we have to find a way to raise our game to an acceptable level.”

After a strong weekend at Spa back in June, where he claimed fourth and sixth in the two races, the Italian will have his work cut out for him tomorrow, starting from 15th for both races.
