Rosberg Audi hails ‘sensational’ Jamie Green
Rosberg Audi team-boss Arno Zensen has described Jamie Green’s performance at Oschersleben as ‘sensational.’
Green qualified his Rosberg prepared RS 5 DTM 11th, but battled his way through the treacherous conditions to take the race lead from Audi stable-mate Adrien Tambay on lap 20.
Green then continued to battle the wet Oschersleben circuit and come the time of the third Safety Car, the Briton had managed to build a lead of just over 11 seconds.
However, the third Safety Car ruined Green’s race and following his final pit-stop, he rejoined down in ninth.
He then spun off on the final lap of the race and was classified 18th.
“It’s a long story,” lamented Green after the race. “My pace was good and I was running in front with a large advantage. Then the safety car was deployed and the field was pushed together.
“Following the safety car period, I was initially able to pull ahead but then had to make my mandatory pit stop. We opted for slicks, which was the right choice.
“I still overtook Gary [Paffett] and Martin [Tomczyk]. I was on Miguel’s [Molina’s] heels and in the chicane put on a bit too much pressure. That caused me to lose control of the rear and to retire on the last lap, which is very painful.”
Despite his non-score Arno Zensen was full of praise for his Green’s performance.
“Jamie, from my point of view, drove a sensational race. It was only the safety car that killed him. The decision to switch to slicks at the end wasnt wrong, but the excursion shortly before the end was of course a shame.”
Green’s team-mate, DTM rookie, Nico Muller finished 16th in his first ever wet DTM race.
