Huge Super Touring grid for BTCC support bill
A hugely impressive 29 cars have been entered for the second round of the HSCC Super Touring Championship at Oulton Park.
Forming part of the support package for the British Touring Car Championship, the grid includes winners from the season opening Thruxton Easter Trophy, John Cleland and championship leader Patrick Watts, as well as GA Class double-winner Nick Whale.
James and Graeme Dodd are also on the entry list after both suffered early mechanical exits in Thruxton’s opening race of the weekend with their Honda Accord and Nissan Primera. James Dodd can be expected to be at the top of the field again at Oulton, after he took a dominant pair of victories at the 2013 Gold Cup.
Making its first appearance of 2014 will be the Ford Mondeo, with two cars entered, one from Alvin Powell and one from Richard Meins. Kingsley Ingram is also scheduled to make his first Super Touring outing of the year in the Mazda 323F.
Simon Garrad, who debuted his Williams Renault Laguna at Thruxton, will be joined by Mark Jones in a similarly liveried ex-Jason Plato Laguna, while Matt Neal’s 1998 Nissan Primera will once again be driven by series organiser Dave Jarman.
A rare Alfa Romeo 155 has been entered by Paul Andrew, the car which dominated the 1994 BTCC season and changed the face of touring car racing with the introduction of aerodynamic aids.
Finally, Max Goff will switch from his 1991 BMW M3, a car three years older than himself, to compete in a Honda Accord.
