Lights to flag victory for Craig Lowndes in Barbagallo
There was no stopping Triple Eight Race Engineering driver Craig Lowndes in the second V8 Supercars race of the Perth 400 weekend. Lowndes started from pole position and kept the lead from lights to flag.
Behind Lowndes, team-mate Jamie Whincup battled with race one winner Scott McLaughlin in the first couple of corners. The Volvo Polestar Racing driver was able to keep second position in the first part of the race but lost out after the pit stop.
Both Mark Winterbottom and Whincup got ahead of McLaughlin after the pit stop, with Winterbottom scoring an important second position in the race to extend his championship lead.
McLaughlin had to defend fourth position from Chaz Mostert and Fabian Coulthard. The Volvo driver got a bit of breathing space as Brad Jones Racing driver Coulthard attacked Ford Performance Racing’s Mostert for fifth position.
Coulthard was able to get past Mostert after some contact with a few laps to go, demoting the Ford driver to sixth position.
Scott Pye climbed to seventh position ahead of Holden Racing Team driver James Courtney in eighth position. David Reynolds and Russell Ingall rounded out the top ten.
The V8 Supercars weekend in Perth continues tomorrow with a final race of 83 laps.
