Series leader Jordan revels in “sweet” first Thruxton win
Championship leader Andrew Jordan says it was a “sweet” feeling to take a dominant first Thruxton win this weekend, with a trio of good results giving him a seven point lead heading into the fourth meeting at Oulton Park.
Jordan dominated on Saturday, taking a commanding pole in his Eurotech Racing Honda Civic, and beating Yvan Muller’s lap record from 2002 for good measure.
He followed this up by winning the first race on Sunday, coming a close second to Gordon Shedden in the second, and battling through to fourth in the finale.
Speaking to TouringCarTimes, Jordan said: “It was sweet. It was good to do it in such dominant fashion – to be so dominant yesterday, get a pole and break a record was good, and then today was a great day.
“We are always strong here. The car is fantastic here and I go well.”
On race two, Jordan lost out narrowly to Honda Racing Team’s Shedden.
He said: “Race two we went a little bit too far on the setup and we were a bit loose through the quick stuff.
“From what I heard about his [Shedden’s] tyres, they weren’t far off going. I was amazed how much the slipstream helped, because when I was behind after he passed me, the slipstream up the back straight was massive.”
And on the final race, Jordan added: “There were some good hard battles, and it was a very fine line between getting into trouble and not, and still making progress forward. I was very happy with that – it was a very tense race and I was pleased to get to the end of it.”
Thoughts now turn to Oulton Park in a month’s time, where Jordan will again qualify with maximum ballast.
He said: “I think the weight will have more effect at Oulton Park, but at the minute we’re the ones to beat.”
