Adrien Tambay thrilled with maiden DTM career pole

Audi’s Adrien Tambay is thrilled after scoring the first pole position of his DTM career.

Tambay, now in his third DTM year with Abt Audi, took the first pole position of his DTM career at the 2014 DTM season opener at Hockenheim ahead of the BMW pairing of Marco Wittmann and DTM rookie Antonio Felix da Costa.

I’m overjoyed!,” said an ecstatic Tambay after the session. “I’m very happy that it finally worked out – especially also for Audi Sport and Team Abt who did a great job during the winter.”

Tambay also revealed he was close to being knocked out in Q1: “In Q1, I was almost eliminated and in the end I took the pole position – unbelievable!

“The mechanics worked very hard and didn’t have a chance to go to bed before 3 in the morning on the past two days either. I couldn’t have thanked them in a better way than by clinching the pole position.”

Double DTM champion Mattias Ekström was the second best placed Audi in fifth, but Miguel Molina and Edoardo Mortara also finished sixth and seventh respectively for the Abt Audi.

The 2008 and 2009 DTM champion Timo Scheider, who moved from Abt Audi to the 2013 DTM championship winning Phoenix Audi team, rounded out the top-10 for the brand.
