WSR appeal result of third race at Donington Park
West Surrey Racing have appealed the result of the final race at Donington Park, after their driver Colin Turkington and Honda Racing Team’s Gordon Shedden clashed on the final corner of the final lap.
Turkington had led for the whole race in his BMW 125i but was caught by the charging Shedden over the final laps. The two battled hard throughout the final tour, before coming to blows at the final chicane.
Shedden went around the outside of Turkington and the pair touched, leading to them both going through the gravel, and Shedden winning the drag race to the line.
Both drivers gave their view of the incident to TouringCarTimes.
Turkington said: “When you’re behind the wheel it’s over in a flash. Gordon has passed me through the gravel, not on the track, and there’s new track limit rules this year which say you’ve got to keep four wheels on the black stuff.”
Shedden said: “He decided to brake where I braked, and he couldn’t make the corner. It was Colin’s contact with me that made me go through the gravel – I could have made the corner. I was in control.”
The appeal is being heard at Donington tonight.
