Early leader Andrew Jordan happy after Brands

Eurotech Racing’s Andrew Jordan was delighted with his weekend’s work at Brands Hatch, taking two wins on his way to the early lead in the championship standings.

The reigning champion left it late to take a superb pole on Saturday, and followed this up with a win in the first race on Sunday, saving a huge slide into Paddock Hill on lap one into the bargain.

He took a win in race two with maximum ballast, and while he slipped to 13th in the final race, he was still happy with his weekend.

“Qualifying was great, and that set us up for a good day,” said Jordan to TouringCarTimes.

“I got a big tap in the back [at the start] and it was a hell of a slide, but I somehow caught it and got into a rhythm, trying to maintain the gap to Jason [Plato]. I think the last couple of laps I was edging a tenth or two.

“Race two was fantastic. With 45kg on, I was really happy to beat [Gordon] Shedden with 18kg. I reckon he hurt his tyres, and I could see the attitude of his car coming off the slow stuff.

“I was just driving to look after the tyres to make sure I had something at the end, which I did. When that safety car came out, I was starting to edge away from him. With Colin [Turkington] behind him, that gave me a bit of breathing space as well.

“In the third race we missed the boat a bit on setup, plus we had the weight and the soft tyre. With a train of cars like that, if you get out of the line it is hard to get back in. But it was a good weekend all round.”

Thoughts now turn to Jordan’s home race at one of his favourite tracks, Donington Park, in three weeks’ time.

He said: “I can’t wait. It’s always nice to get the first one done. It’s a good feeling, and I’m looking forward to Donington.”
