Adam Morgan delighted with “magnificent” Mercedes

Adam Morgan was full of more superlatives for his new Mercedes A-Class after another productive day at the Donington Park official test.

The Ciceley Racing pilot said he had been “blown away” by how good his new car was, after posting the fourth fastest time in the limited dry running this afternoon.

He completed a total of 35 laps across the four-hour session, which was punctuated by a number of heavy downpours.

Speaking to TouringCarTimes, Morgan said: “It has been a really good day. This is only our second proper test, and to put in a time like that so early on is really encouraging.

“If we can get some more miles under our belt before the first race, and do some more analysis on the car, then we should be there or thereabout, and knocking on the door of the quick guys.

“We didn’t do anything setup-wise in the dry. We went out, set a time and made some changes, and then we had a problem with the diff. By the time we took that out it had rained.

“Even in the wet, the car was magnificent. It has really surprised me. It has blown me away – the lads behind the scenes have built an absolutely superb race car.”

Many of the parts on the new A-Class have been cannibalised from the Toyota Avensis Morgan raced last season, with the shell being sold on to Lea Wood.

Asked how the driving experience compared, Morgan said: “The wheelbase is shorter, which makes a difference, and the car is a lot more balanced than the Toyota.

“It just feels really nimble, and you can swing it around in the corners. It is really impressive.”

Morgan will be testing again at Silverstone tomorrow (Wednesday), and may also return to Donington on Thursday.

“We are a little bit behind, but so far it has gone really well,” he added.
