Jason Bright unhurt after massive roll in Adelaide
Jason Bright got into a massive roll at the safety car restart of Sunday’s Clipsal 500 race in Adelaide. The car was a write-off while the Brad Jones Racing driver escaped unhurt.
“I’m OK. It was the first rollover of my career. It was a lot more gentle then what I expected but it landed pretty hard though on the roof. The worst part was probably being upside down trying to get out with a very different view of the world,” said Bright.
The incident came as three cars went side-by-side into the first corner with Garth Tander nudging Bright into a spectacular roll. Team owner Brad Jones is critical of the new safety car restart format.
“The first two (Van Gisbergen, Kelly) went too early. That spread the guys out because some of them went with the leaders and others held back. That compounded the problem coming into turn 1. I think when someone has a big accident like this we need to have a look at the cause and these re-starts are something that are new. The re-starts were pretty scrappy today and I think they should be looked at,” said Jones.
The crash damage was estimated to go beyond 100 000 AUD and the team is currently working hard to get ready for the race weekend in Melbourne in two weeks.
“We have just over a week to get it done. We will get home to Albury at about 3pm Monday and we will pull it apart and figure out what we are going to do. It looks like there is more damage done to that than was done to James Courtney’s car at Phillip Island. There is one corner on that car that is alright,” said Jones.
