Volvo Polestar Racing previews V8 engine sound

Volvo Polestar Racing has released a preview video of the new 650 HP V8 engine sound, three days ahead of the reveal of the Volvo S60 in V8 Supercars specification.

”We are looking forward to the coming season and we are delighted to give our fans and partners a first taste of what the engine will sound like,” said Mattias Evensson, head of engine development at Polestar.

The engine is based on the Volvo V8 engine previously available for the S80 and XC90 models, with the power being brought up from 315 hp and 440 Nm to 650 hp and 660 Nm.

”Just as for our road car engines, our main objective is drivability or ”power when you need it” as our racing drivers say. The challenges are many to get an optimal combination of power, reliability, fuel efficiency and drivability. There are no secrets to it though, it is all about hard work and designing it right. The Volvo engines are always very good to work with from the start and this one is certainly no exception,” said Evensson.

The team tested the engine in the new car for the first time earlier this month and reported to be happy with the progress.

The car will be officially unveiled at a media event on Thursday this week.
