David Reynolds claims first ever V8 Supercars win at Gold Coast
David Reynolds claimed his first ever V8 Supercars victory in the second Gold Coast race of the weekend together with co-driver Dean Canto. The Ford driver fought for the lead with HRT Holden driver James Courtney in the final part of the race, a fight which took an abrupt end with 15 laps left as Courtney hit the curbs too hard and had to retire with a broken steering.
The Brad Jones Racing duo of Fabian Coulthard and Luke Youlden made a strong drive from 16th on the grid to finish second in the race. The Holden duo had to fend off a charging Russell Ingall on the closing laps, but with Ingall having to settle for third and the final podium position in the end.
Former championship leader Jamie Whincup finished fourth and gained points on Red Bull Racing Australia team mate and race one winner Craig Lowndes who only managed eighth in the race.
Lee Holdsworth and Craig Baird made a strong run for Erebus Mercedes to finish fifth, right ahead of Nissan duo Rick Kelly and Karl Reindler, rounding out the top six.
There was drama mid-distance in the race as Scott Pye clipped the tyre barriers, leaving his car stranded on the track. Shane Van Gisbergen was unable to avoid the stationary Holden Commodore and crashed in to the rear of the car, meaning a retirement for both cars and a safety car session.
Ford Performance Racing had another tough race as Will Davison finished ninth while Mark Winterbottom finished down in 18th position due to losing two laps early in the race due to suspension problems.
V8 Supercars continues on November 24th with the penultimate race of the year at Philip Island.
