Martin Tomczyk happy to see end of 2013

BMW’s Martin Tomczyk is pleased the 2013 DTM season has ended following a nightmare season.

Tomczyk, who won the drivers’ title with Phoenix Audi in 2011, scored just 10 points in his second year with the RMG BMW team courtesy of a fifth place at the Nürburgring in August.

Another difficult race at the Hockenheim season finale which saw him finish 19th and almost a lap down to race winner, BMW stablemate Timo Glock.

Tomczyk eventually finished 2013 classified 19th in the drivers’ standings.

“I’m really happy the season is over,” Tomczyk told TouringCarTimes after the race. “There’s not much to say really, apart from it’s the last race and it was good to complete the whole distance even though we were second to last.

“I’m just happy BMW won the manufacturers and I finished that c**p season.”

Tomczyk also expressed disappointment towards Jamie Green after the BMW driver twice ended up in the gravel following two separate racing incidents with the Audi driver.

Only one incident was captured by the TV cameras on lap 22.

“There was a lot of contact out there and that’s fine if you stay on the racing line and can just follow, but as soon as you have to go off-line into the gravel and lose massive time, it’s not okay anymore.

“That was twice the case with me and Jamie [Green] today. I’ve spoken to him about it and he apologised but in the end, it didn’t help me because twice I tried to pass him on the inside.

“We came around together, twice he tried a move on the inside but he pushed me off.

“It could be this way or that, but it fits my 2013 season quite well.”
