BMW MTEK still confident despite weather
MTEK BMW team principal, Ernst Knoors, has said his team is still confident of a strong performance at Hockenheim, despite extremely wet weather conditions.
Like the MTEK team, its drivers Timo Glock and Marco Wittmann, are new to the DTM for 2013 and the season finale sees them line up fourth and sixth on the grid.
However, despite its relative inexperience compared to some of the more established teams, Knoors, believes his team is still capable of a strong performance in spite of the weather.
“I’m confident [but] if the weather is like this, it’s always a bit more of a lottery,” Knoors told TouringCarTimes. “When it’s dry you see the pure performance of the driver and the car. I think BMW as a manufacturer is very good in those conditions, so normally you like to keep that.
“With the wet, you have to shuffle your cards around and keep on top of what you need to do with the strategy.”
Knoors added that whilst Glock and Wittmann have strong grid positions, keeping them will be a challenge off the start-line due to the monsoon-like conditions.
“It’s clearly an advantage to start from the front because you have a clearer view and better visibility, but it’s a bit risky in trying to keep your position.
“It’s a bit more difficult, but that’s where the true talent of a driver comes out. It’s just something you have to deal with.”
