High praise from Mike Jordan for son Andrew

Eurotech Racing boss Mike Jordan said son Andrew drove “stunningly” to extend his championship lead at Silverstone, and put himself in prime position for a maiden BTCC title at Brands Hatch.

Jordan takes a 34-point lead to Kent, the scene of his independents’ championship-winning weekend last season.

And Jordan Snr says he is confident his young charge can turn in the performance he needs on the Grand Prix circuit.

He said: “I think even with 45kg on we will challenge for pole at Brands. I would not be in the least bit surprised. If we can be somewhere near the front, and have good, solid first race, it will set us up very well.

“We will just keep out feet on the ground, go to Brands and try to keep out of trouble in the first race.”

Reflecting on the Silverstone weekend, Jordan said: “It has gone way better than we could have expected it to. This is always going to be the weakest circuit for the Honda – it doesn’t play to its strengths, and it throws up a lot of anomalies.

“You get some of the cars which aren’t great on laptimes getting more boost. It happens year in, year out, so it was always going to be a tough one.

“We expected to probably lose about half of our lead. We discussed it and came here thinking we were probably going to lose 15 points.

“To actually increase our lead, on a circuit we know is not great for us, is a hell of an achievement. He has driven stunningly.”
