Augusto Farfus: “I could not have done any better”
BMW’s Augusto Farfus believes he was unable to have driven any better, after taking his third win of the 2013 DTM season at Zandvoort.
Farfus took victory ahead of championship winner, Mike Rockenfeller, by 1.6 seconds after the final part of the race was compromised by a Safety Car which was brought out following the accident between Dirk Werner and Jamie Green.
The Brazilian’s pace in his RBM prepared BMW M3 was such at one point, he extended his lead over Rockenfeller by around 15 seconds when he bolted on the standard tyre after the first round of pit-stops.
“I did my job today and could not have done any better,” said Farfus after the race. “[but] the race was not as easy as it may have looked.
“I was able to pull away from Rockenfeller in the first stint, [but] then the tyres dropped off; he started to catch up and I was really in trouble.
“Then the car was better on primes and I could really pull clear.”
Farfus’ victory also means he has won more races than any other driver this season, and cannot be caught for second position in the drivers’ standings with only one race on the calendar remaining.
He also congratulated Rockenfeller on his maiden DTM championship.
“Congratulations to him on his fully-deserved title; he has had a brilliant season and I take my hat off to him.
“I have nothing to complain about as my second year in the DTM has been very strong; I have to thank my team for a superb season.”
