2014 V8 Supercars calendar confirmed without Texas race
The 2014 V8 Supercars calendar has been confirmed, featuring 16 rounds with start on March 2nd at the Clipsal 500 Adelaide and season finale at the Sydney 500 on December 7th.
The major changes include the removal of the American race at Cirucit of the Americas and the return of Sydney Motorsport Park.
The American race has been removed due to a clash with an X Games event but the V8 Supercars organisers are confident for a return in 2015 and discussions with more tracks in America are ongoing.
“The timing of COTA securing the X Games next year led to the mutual agreement of a gap-year before consolidating, planning and returning to Texas in 2015. The first Austin 400 was an enormous success at all levels and a tremendous platform to build into the future; in conjunction with developing an extensive international strategy for 2015 and beyond,” said V8 Supercars CEO James Warburton.
Other news include moving the Winton 400 event from August to April, twilight races, which format will be revealed early next year, and a changed race format, as we have reported on before.
“We have the opportunity to continue with an entrepreneurial approach, with high levels of innovation and commitment to our fans. There is a chance to build on the energy and passion of the business created through the course of this year; taking it to the next level in 2014 and even further in 2015. We have had the period of consolidation, now is the time for innovation, growth and building for the next five to ten years,” said Warburton.
The Dunlop V8 Supercar series will be present at the same race weekends as this year, marked with DS in the calendar below.
