Timo Scheider hoping to continue clean start to weekend

Audi’s Timo Scheider is hoping to continue his clean start to the Oschersleben DTM weekend, after he finished an encouraging third in this morning’s practice session.

Scheider, who has won twice at Oschersleben, started the 2013 season well after taking pole at the season opener at Hockenheim. Despite his encouraging start to the year, his season has since taken a downturn, and has more often than not seen his Abt Audi affected by problems which range from pit-stops to technical issues.

However, in the free-practice session at Oschersleben, the 2008 and 2009 DTM champion finished a solid third and feels the work he and the Abt team have done to the car will put them in a strong position for the race and qualifying.

“It’s always good to have a clean start into a race weekend,” Scheider told TouringCarTimes. “We were able to sort out several things during the roll-out and the free practice and get prepared for the qualifying as well as for the race.

“Oschersleben has always been good to me in the past and I hope it will continue this year.”

Scheider also added that the incident free session has given him and his mechanics more confidence, after bizarre incidents – such as an exploding fire-extinguisher during practice at the Nürburgring – have affected his campaign.

“All practice pit stops worked out fine which gives a lot of self confidence for the mechanics and for me.”
