Wang Rue puts Volkswagen on pole at Chengdu
Shanghai VW 333 Racing’s Wang Rue has grabbed pole position for the fifth round of the 2013 China Touring Car Championship at the Chengdu Goldenport Circuit, with Volkswagen locking out the top three positions for tomorrow’s race.
Wang was almost half a second faster than his team-mate, reigning champion Han Han, with Zhang Zhen Dong qualifying third and the fourth Volkswagen Polo of Guo Hua Yang claiming fifth position.
The Chang’an Ford FRD team struggled in comparison, with Jiang Tengyi the best placed of the Ford drivers in fourth, with Andy Yan, Martin Xie and Rainey He qualifying sixth, tenth and 11th respectively, with Xie suffering with heatstroke.
Huang Chu Han was the best placed of the Kia Racing contingent in seventh, with the privateer G Racing Chevrolet Cruze 1.6Ts of Ziang Zhi Qiang and Kenneth Look qualifying in eighth and ninth positions.
The CTCC Super Production class race will take place at 13:22 local time on Sunday.
