Sam Tordoff sets pace in second Snetterton practice

Sam Tordoff left it late to set the pace in second practice at Snetterton, setting two laps good enough to top the times.

Tordoff pipped his Triple Eight MG team-mate Jason Plato with two minutes to go with a time of 1.57.415, and then lowered it to a 1.57.388 on his next and final flying lap.

Plato was 0.241 behind Tordoff in the second MG one-two of the day, with reigning champion Gordon Shedden nearly 0.7 off the pace in third for Honda Racing Team.

The MG pair’s ominous pace from the morning carried over into the second session, with Tordoff’s best time 0.207 faster than the qualifying lap record set by Frank Wrathall last year.

Dave Newsham continued his strong pace from the morning in fourth for Speedworks Motorsport, ahead of Andrew Jordan, while Adam Morgan, Mat Jackson, Matt Neal, Colin Turkington and Jack Goff completed the top 10.

Liam Griffin was the fastest of the Jack Sears Trophy runners, in 22nd overall in his Motorbase Performance Ford Focus.

Andy Neate was 25th in the new IP Tech Chevrolet Cruze, completing 13 laps to go with the 12 he managed this morning, while the new Team BMR Restart Volkswagen CC of Warren Scott was confined to the garage with an oil pressure problem.

Lea Wood also hit trouble in his JWT Performance Vauxhall Vectra, with an electrical problem preventing him from setting a time.

Qualifying for the first of tomorrow’s three races gets under way at 15:20 BST.
