DTM returns to China in 2014
DTM is back in China next year. The German championship will host one race in the Autumn next year on a yet to be announced street circuit.
“We are delighted that we are allowed to be guests with the DTM in China for the third time. The Chinese passenger car market is among the fastest growing in the world and therefore is very important for our manufacturers Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz,” said Hans Werner Aufrecht, chairman of the board of ITR e.V.
The race will be held either in Shanghai or Guangdong, a decision to be announced later this year, and will be organised together with the Chinese Brilliant Culture Group.
“China is ready for DTM’s return. We are now the largest car market in the world and the Chinese fans of Audi, BMW and Mercedes Benz are looking forward to seeing their favourite manufacturers race here again. DTM will no doubt help grow motorsports culture in China,” said Maggie Ip, Chairman of the Brilliant Culture Group.
The DTM last raced in China in 2010 and before that in 2004, on both occasions in Shanghai. Gary Paffett won both races, while the 2004 race was an invitational race.
