Volvo Polestar Racing celebrates strong first STCC season half
Volvo Polestar Racing has taken command in the first season half of the Scandinavian Touring Car Championship by claiming five out of six victories and ten out of 18 podium finishes.
“The first season half has been exciting and successful for Volvo Polestar Racing. The drivers and the guys in the team have done an awesome job in the first four races and this is the perfect build up for the second and decisive half of the season,” said Derek Crabb, Motorsport Director of Volvo Cars.
Thed Björk took the championship lead in the second race of the season and has dominated with four straight victories, only to be hampered by a retirement in the final race at Falkenberg last weekend.
“I still pulled away with one point overall from the weekend at Falkenberg from my main rival Richard Göransson, so I am quite pleased. The first season half has been really amazing, the team has delivered and everything has just worked the way it should. I didn’t expect my fourth straight win at Falkenberg as we struggled in testing, so it was extra nice to be able to secure that before the summer break,” said Björk.
Except for championship rival and BMW driver Richard Göransson, Volvo colleague Robert Dahlgren is closest to Björk in third position in the championship. Dahlgren has started the season strong with three podium finishes in six races, but with some problems at Falkenberg.
“The weekend at Falkenberg was a disappointment unfortunately. But you will always hit problems sooner or later during a season and the speed is there. Next up is my home race after the summer break and I will won’t back down there, that is for sure,” said Dahlgren.
STCC continues at the airport track Östersund on August 10th, the first race weekend of the final four.
