First Jack Sears Trophy win for delighted David Nye

A delighted David Nye took his first piece of silverware in the Jack Sears Trophy at Croft, describing his class win in round two as “fantastic” after a race-long dice with Jake Hill and Lea Wood.

Nye’s battle with Motorbase Performance newcomer Hill and season-long frontrunner Wood was one of the highlights of the race, with the trio running nose-to-tail throughout.

And as the battle was for 15th overall, it also meant Nye scored his first point in the main championship.

Speaking to TouringCarTimes, Nye said: “We managed to get it off the line and it was a little bit greasy to start with.

“I passed a load of cars at the chicane on the first lap and they told me to give back a couple of places – it was all a bit of a blur.

“It was a fantastic race, and I’m glad I won it.”

Regarding his two rivals over the weekend, Nye said: “I got a punt in the first race from Lea [Wood], who came up to apologise as he was a bit ambitious under braking. But that’s just racing, I don’t hold it against him.

“It is nice to see Jake Hill out there, who is a tough little racer, and they both pushed me hard.”

Speaking about his experience so far in the BTCC, Nye said: “It is a lot better than I expected, a lot of fun. It’s not such a great expense as an NGTC car.

“We have got a really great team at Welch Motorsport, the best I have ever had. They are really up for it.

“Little by little we have been making progress in the right direction.”
