Garry Rogers Motorsport “thrilled” with multi-year Volvo deal

Garry Rogers Motorsport was today announced to be the official Volvo factory team for 2014 under the name Volvo Polestar Racing Australia.
“I speak on behalf of all our staff when I say how absolutely thrilled we are that Fujistu Racing GRM have been chosen to represent the Volvo brand one of the worlds highly regarded vehicle manufacturers for their entry into the V8 Supercar Category,” said team owner Garry Rogers.

GRM currently fields two Holden Commodores in the V8 Supercars Scott McLaughlin and Alexandre Prémat, cars which will be changed to a pair of Volvo S60s next year.
“The road ahead will be a lot of hard work, no different to any other year and we will work as hard as we can to achieve success for the team and all its sponsors and fans. The badges on our cars may look a little different as we move on but the personality and the openness of our team will remain the same,” said Rogers.

Drivers for next year have not been officially announced yet, but at least one of the current drivers are likely to remain.
“They are locked in (Prémat and McLaughlin). (But) all our contracts … my contract is conditional on me doing a job. When we have people who don’t do the job they’ve got to go and (thankfully) we’ve never been grey in that area,” said Rogers to speedcafe.com.

There have been speculations on a Swedish driver taking one of the seats next year, such as current Volvo Polestar Racing STCC drivers Robert Dahlgren, Thed Björk or Fredrik Ekblom. Dahlgren was present during the press conference, while in the form of Polestar test and development driver as the Volvo S60 Polestar road car was launched at the same time.

GRM has run Commodores since 1996 with limited support from Holden, with the highlight coming in 2000 when winning the Bathurst 1000 with Garth Tander and Jason Bargwanna behind the wheel.
“I would like to thank Holden for the relationship that we have shared over a long period of time. We have had some great success together like winning Bathurst, winning the 24 hour race at Bathurst 2 years in a row and other individual success. Myself and my team have made some great friendships with Holden people during this time, however I understand that commercially Holden are financially committed to Walkinshaw Racing and Triple Eight and I needed to make plans for the ongoing wellbeing and success of the GRM team and all of our staff,” said Rogers.
