Jamie Green tops Lausitzring practice
Audi’s Jamie Green has set the fastest time in practice in free practice for tomorrow’s race at the Lausitzring, ahead of Mercedes’ Gary Paffett and stablemate Timo Scheider.
Green, who has had a difficult start to 2013 since switching from Mercedes over the winter, appeared to be on the pace around the East German circuit, and has been lurking around the top-six since around the half-way point in the 90-minute session.
In the closing minutes of the session, the Leicestershire man put in a lap which elevated him at the top of the time-sheets by a mere 0.029 seconds.
Scheider, until that point, had been at the top of the time sheets since he posted the lap time some 10-minutes into the session.
HWA Mercedes driver, Robert Wickens, was fourth, ahead of the Audi pairing of Adrien Tambay, and championship contender, Mike Rockenfeller.
Bruno Spengler was the best of the BMWs in seventh, ahead of Green’s Abt Sportsline team-mate, Mattias Ekstrom, Mercedes’ rookie, Pascal Wehrlein, and the Rosberg Audi of Edoardo Mortara.
Overall, the session was Audi’s strongest of the season after six of its cars made it into the top-10.
Further down the field, Mercedes pairing, Christian Vietoris and Daniel Juncadella, set the same 1m:18.644 lap-time, which saw them finish the session in 11th and 12th.
Spielberg star, Timo Glock, finished the session in 13th and also spun his BMW M3 at Turn 5.
Mercedes’ Roberto Merhi was the only other man in the session to get it wrong, after the young Spaniard missed Turn 1 and drove half of the lap on the oval section of the track.
