Timo Scheider unconcerned about repeat pitstop problems
Audi Team Abt’s Timo Scheider is unconcerned about the pitstop issue which dropped him out of the points last time out in Spielberg.
Scheider, who had qualified fifth and best of the Audi drivers, eventually finished the race 16th and out of the points in Spielberg due to a pitstop problem.
However, the double DTM champion is confident that the Abt outfit is on top of its pitstops and the problem will not reoccur during this weekend at the Lausitzring.
“About the the pitstops, the Abt crew has proved many times that they are on of the fastest in the pit lane,” Scheider told TouringCarTimes.com “In Spielberg they did the second fastest stop at Mattias’ car, so they know how to do it.
“Nevertheless, they still train several times between the races. I have been with the team on Wednesday for the final practice and everything went perfectly.”
Scheider also believes that the Abt team’s tough start to the season has been due to the high level of competition in 2013, as well as the shorter race weekends.
“As the DTM is so close together in 2013, you need a 100-percent-weekend to be in front: Use the free practice, be fully concentrated in qualifying, make a perfect start, find the best strategy, make no mistakes and have two proper pitstops. Thats what every DTM driver dreams of.”
However, as the team won the title with him in 2008 and 2009, and with Mattias Ekstrom in 2004 and 2007, he is sure the team has not forgotten how to win, despite finishing second best to the Phoenix Audi squad so far in 2013.
“We had that [perfect weekend] in the past, so we go for that every single weekend.”
